Curling Canada launches rebranded and redesigned Skills Curling app to support athlete development
Curling Canada has unveiled the newly updated Skills Curling app — a fresh rebrand and redesign of the formerly titled Singles Curling app — designed to help young athletes across the country develop and measure their on-ice performance in a fun, structured, and competitive way.
Download the app for free today on the Apple App Store or the Android App Store on Google Play.
The reimagined Skills Curling app is a powerful training and competition tool, allowing athletes to practise and submit scores for a variety of hit and draw shots. Their performance is evaluated, stored in personal profiles, and added to a national leaderboard. Difficulty levels are customized by age category: U-15, U-18, U-21, and U-25+.
“We are excited to be ushering in a new era for the Skills discipline, with a new name, logo, and brand,” said Dustin Mikush, Curling Canada’s Manager of Youth Development & Programming. “The new app redesign and rebuild is all about elevating the user experience for athletes, coaches, youth program leaders, and parents/guardians. We are looking forward to seeing the continued growth and impact of Skills Curling across the country.”
The updated logo showcases five stars, referencing a “5-Star Curler” which is the goal of Curling Canada’s Long-Term Curler Development framework, showing a key connection to the development of athletes.
The app, which is available free of charge to curlers, coaches, and parents, has seen significant growth since its original launch. In September 2023, just over 100 youth athletes had registered. By June 2025, that number had grown to more than 1,600 athletes with official Skills Curling App IDs.
The app plays a key role in regional qualification events for Curling Canada’s U-15 RockFest, with several Member Associations integrating the app into their youth development programs. This season, Nova Scotia Curling is launching two qualifying events and direct entries into U-15 RockFest Atlantic using the app.
“Here at Nova Scotia Curling, we’re very excited about the updated launch of Skills Curling,” said Jill Brothers, Technical Director of Nova Scotia Curling. “After participating in Curling Canada’s program over the past two seasons, it’s been great to provide feedback based on both in-person events and app experiences, as well as input from players and coaches. We’ve worked together with Curling Canada to ensure the program stays age and stage appropriate, and we’re looking forward to continuing the evolution of Skills Curling.”
The rebrand responds to feedback from athletes, coaches, and stakeholders nationwide, including Curling Canada’s Youth Development Council and its sponsorship partners.
The program aligns with Curling Canada’s Long-Term Curler Development framework and:
- Supports curlers and their daily training environments at all stages of development
- Builds strong shot-making skills through a balance of training and competition
- Provides measurable progress tracking for athletes and coaches
One of the app’s new features allows Member Associations to promote their own sanctioned events within the platform, helping connect users with more local opportunities to train and compete.
With continued piloting underway in older youth age groups and enhanced integration into coaching and athlete development programs, the Skills Curling app is quickly becoming an essential tool in the development pathway for young athletes across the country.
