Teams Homan, Jacobs open play next week at 2025 U.S. Steel Pan Continental Championships
Canada’s teams at the 2025 United States Steel Pan Continental Curling Championships will open play early next week at the Iron Trail Motors Event Center in Virginia, Minn.
Team Brad Jacobs of Calgary will kick off the eight-team men’s round-robin draw Monday at 8 p.m. (all times Eastern) against China’s Team Xiaoming Xu — a rematch of the bronze-medal match at the 2025 BKT Tires World Men’s Championship last April in Moose Jaw, Sask., where Team Jacobs prevailed 11-2.
Women’s round-robin play gets underway Tuesday at 10 a.m. when Team Rachel Homan of Ottawa is up against Japan’s Team Satsuki Fujisawa.
It’s the first time in the event’s history that it will be staged outside of Canada, with competition scheduled to run through to Oct. 26.
With Canada’s berth as host nation for the 2026 BKT Tires World Women’s Curling Championship, March 14-22 in Calgary already assured, Team Homan’s quest in Minnesota will be to become the first team ever to win back-to-back gold medals after its 2024 victory in Lacombe, Alta.
Homan is backed up by vice-skip Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, lead Sarah Wilkes, alternate Rachelle Brown and national coaches Viktor Kjell and Renee Sonnenberg. Team coach Heather Nedohin can’t attend due to prior commitments.

Team Jacobs, meanwhile, will be looking for a top-four finish that will lock down Canada’s berth in the 2026 LGT World Men’s Curling Championship in Ogden, Utah, in its Pan Continental Championships debut.
The Jacobs team is rounded out by vice-skip Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant, lead Ben Hebert, alternate Tyler Tardi, team coach Paul Webster and national coach Jeff Stoughton.
In the previous three editions, Team Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L., represented Canada in men’s competition and won two gold and finished fourth last year in Lacombe.
The eight women’s and eight men’s teams will play a full round-robin, with the top four teams after round-robin play reaching the semifinals (first vs. fourth, second vs. third). The winners of those games advance to the gold-medal games and the losers compete in the bronze-medal games.
