2025 Home Hardware Pre-Trials kick off Monday in Wolfville, N.S.

0 15

Dreams of a February trip to Italy will stay alive for the women’s and men’s champions of the 2025 Home Hardware Canadian Curling Pre-Trials, which get underway Monday at Andrew H. McCain Arena in Wolfville, N.S.

The Home Hardware Pre-Trials will decide the final qualifiers for the 2025 Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials, presented by Connect Hearing, Nov. 22-30 in Halifax.

The Trials in Halifax will determine the women’s and men’s four-player teams that will be nominated to the Canadian Olympic Committee to represent Canada at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics in Italy.

The eight women’s and eight men’s teams competing in the Home Hardware Canadian Curling Pre-Trials qualified based on their ranking on the 2024-25 CTRS standings, and had to meet the same eligibility requirements as those who qualified for the Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials.

Round-robin play begins with the first men’s draw Monday at 9 a.m. (all times Atlantic), with women’s play starting at 2 p.m.

Here are the teams that qualified and accepted invitations for the Home Hardware Canadian Curling Pre-Trials (in some cases, teams turned down invitations because of lineup changes or other commitments for the 2025-26 curling season):

Women

1. Team Beth Peterson (Winnipeg)
2. Team Kayla MacMillan (Victoria)
3. Team Danielle Inglis (Ottawa)
4. Team Selena Sturmay (Edmonton)
5. Team Ashley Thevenot (Martensville, Sask.)
6. Team Krista Scharf (Thunder Bay, Ont.)
7. Team Myla Plett (Edmonton/Sherwood Park, Alta.)
8. Team Nancy Martin (Martensville, Sask.)

Men

1. Team Jordon McDonald (Winnipeg)
2. Team Sam Mooibroek (Whitby, Ont.)
3. Team Scott Howard (Navan, Ont.)
4. Team Braden Calvert (Winnipeg)
5. Team Mark Kean (Woodstock, Ont.)
6. Team Owen Purcell (Halifax)
7. Team Jean-Michel Ménard (Glenmore/Des Collines/Etchemin/Valleyfield, Que.)
8. Team Jayden King (London, Ont.)

The Home Hardware Pre-Trials will follow the same format as the Montana’s Trials — the eight teams in each gender will play a full round robin, with the top three teams reaching the playoffs.

The second- and third-place teams will play a sudden-death semifinal on Oct. 24, with the winner meeting the first-place team in a best-of-three final series.

The women’s and men’s third and deciding games, if necessary, are both scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26.
