Team Brown secures berth into 2025 PointsBet Invitational women’s final

Skip Corryn Brown led her Kamloops, B.C., crew to a 10-6 victory Friday afternoon over Team Kate Cameron (St. Adolphe, Man., 1-2) at the 2025 PointsBet Invitational. The win guarantees Brown’s squad a place in the final on Sunday at 11 a.m., (all times MT).

“I just think it’s a really great step in the right direction for us,” said Brown. “Obviously, it wasn’t the start of the season that we wanted, but I think we really proved it here that we can contend with the best.”

It looked like Brown had the game in the bag heading into the seventh end, leading 7-2, but it’s possible the pressure got to the undefeated skip knowing what was on the line.

“I think we were trying to go with the mentality to not make it bigger than it needed to be, but sometimes it’s tough when you’re the feature game,” said Brown. “I think maybe I got a bit a bit too high at times and had to bring it down a little bit, but we were able to put ourselves in a good position in that last end and we were able to pull it off.”

The seventh end brought some trouble for the West-coast team, providing Team Cameron an opportunity to put some points on the scoreboard. Cameron spent the next three ends chasing Brown’s tail, sticking her in a tough position in the tenth end.

The game came down to Cameron’s last rock, where she had an opportunity to draw for one and force the game into a shootout. Unfortunately, she came up just short, handing Brown the win and a big opportunity heading into a key season.

“It wasn’t the end of the game that I would have imagined for myself, but a win is a win,” said Brown. “That doesn’t really doesn’t really matter. We’re really happy with the position that we’re in.”

Tension is high leading up to the Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials, presented by Connect Hearing, set for November 22-30 in Halifax, as each team chases their dream to represent Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Getting time in on arena ice is key especially with the Trials looming just around the corner.

“I think we kind of put ourselves in position A, and we’re really using this as a test event for us, so we’re really happy with how we’ve done, and hopefully you can continue that into November,” said Brown.

In other Friday afternoon action, Team Kerri Einarson (Gimli, Man., 2-1) outdid Team Selena Sturmay (Edmonton, 1-2) 11-4, Team Christina Black (Halifax, 1-2) beat Team Beth Peterson (Winnipeg, 1-2) 8-5, and Team Kaitlyn Lawes (Winnipeg, 2-1) devastated Team Myla Plett (Edmonton, 1-2) 10-3. In an all-Saskatchewan showdown, Team Mike McEwen (Saskatoon, 3-0) outplayed Team Rylan Kleiter (0-3, Saskatoon), 7-2.
