PANDEMIC FORCES FURTHER CANCELLATION OF CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Two major curling events have been forced to cancel due to the increase number of COVID-19 cases.
The COVID-19 virus situation has caused many groups, including CURLSASK, to reassess ongoing and upcoming events and gatherings. After careful consideration, we, along with the local host committee and title sponsors, have decided to cancel the Viterra Scotties Provincial Women’s Championship and the SaskTel Tankard Provincial Men’s Championship scheduled to take place at Affinity Place in Estevan from January 29 – February 7, 2021.
“Under current public health orders this championship was no longer feasible nor financially responsible to attempt to host,” said Ashley Howard CURLSASK Executive Director. She continued “Estevan has served as a first-class host community for a number of events including the 2018 SaskTel Tankard and 2018 Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling. Given the success of past Championships hosted by the community of Estevan, our team will not hesitate to return to Estevan when it is safe and responsible to do so.”
Estevan will be given first right of refusal for 2021-2022 Curling Season.
At this time CURLSASK continues to work with our members, clubs and board of directors to plan our return to the ice again this season. Our focus at this time is to supporting our member curling clubs throughout this unprecedented time. Further updates to competition scheduling are forthcoming.
