2019-2020 National Masters Championship Cancelled

CURLSASK received the following notification from 2020 Canadian Masters Championships Co-Chairs, Gail Samaan & Wayne Cooper:

“There is no question that these last few months have been a very difficult time for all of us and the upcoming months may be even more trying.  With this in mind, we are regrettably forced to announce that the 2020 Canadian Masters Curling Championships will not be rescheduled.

Both Curling Canada and the World Curling Federation have made the decision not to reschedule their events due to the uncertainty of the COVID 19 situation and we believe this decision best protects the health and safety of our curlers, volunteers and supporters.

We understand that this is a disappointment for the teams who qualified and the host committee, both who put in a tremendous amount of work,  but we believe it is in the best interest of everyone.”

Additionally, a statement and future updates can be found on the official Canadian Master’s webpage: https://masterscurling.ca/

CURLSASK Update

Today, we learned that the final National Championship of the 2019-2020 season was cancelled. We support these difficult decisions made by the National Master’s Steering Committee and volunteer Host Committee.

In turn, the 2019-2020 Masters Provincials that were suspended on March 12; will be officially cancelled.

Our Master’s category remains a critical competition and the next Saskatchewan title will be contested in Melfort in March of 2021.

At this time the National Club Championship (TBA) and National Mixed Championships (in Canmore, Alberta) remain on the schedule.

At this time the Prairieland Curling Camp remains on our schedule.

CURLSASK and the Championship Committee are working hard to determine the next steps for the 2020-2021 season and will provide a full update when we are able.

Again, we empathize especially with the athletes, coaches, volunteers and member clubs who are so deeply affected by this situation.

If you have any questions, please send us an email as our staff will be working from home during the pandemic. Further updates will be posted as they are available.
