Silvernagle and Dunstone Claim 2020 Provincial Championships

"Back To Back" for Silvernagle

Congratulations to Team Silvernagle on successfully defending their championship title!

It was an exciting 24 hours not just for the team, but for all the fans in attendance here at the Horizon Credit Union Centre in Melville. Firstly, in the A vs. B page playoff game. Silvernagle defeated Team Ashley Howard on her final stone in the 10th end, where Robyn made a delicate come around tap on shot rock to score her deuce and the 7-6 victory earning that direct berth into Tuesdays final.

From there, Silvernagle and team followed it off with an even better finish, making a double take out in the 10th end against Team Sherry Anderson, to cap off an amazing week and back to back provincial championships. With the win, they are now known as Team Saskatchewan, representing our province in the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw.

“Stefanie competed in the Scotties last time it was here in Moose Jaw, and she said it was the most amazing experience she’s had so we’re really excited for it,” said Robyn Silvernagle in her post game media scrum. Claire Hanna of CTV Regina also asked Robyn how the nerves were compared to last years final. “Actually, I wasn’t even nervous the whole game. Definitely a different experience this time around, because of that experience last year.”

Dunstone Brier Bound!

One year ago, Matt and team were on the other side of the inch, losing to Team Muyres on a last stone draw to the four foot. This time around, a bit of a different story.

After Dunstone dropped consecutive games in both the A & B-Event finals, it was a bit of a grind qualifying through the C-Event and back into the championship final. “To be honest this is the most sore I have ever been, we played close to 50 ends in the past 30 some hours, it was a mental grind,” says Dunstone.

In this afternoon’s final, Dunstone a team played a near perfect game. Scoring two deuces in ends two and four, while holding Muyres to only the two single point scores through the entire 10 ends! As Matt took to the hack for the final shot of the week, he was faced with an open hit for the win, and he made no mistake. An amazing game played by both teams!

Murray McCormick of the Regina Leader-Post asked Matt how winning this championship feels. “This is my first one as a skip, but regardless of when or how many times it’s always the best feeling, this is why you curl!”
