Curling Community Mourns Passing of Deanna Rindal

It is with deep sadness that we announce that CURLSASK Chief Umpire Deanna Rindal has lost her battle with cancer, passing away Thursday afternoon.

Deanna had a passion & life long love for the sport of curling like no other. Not only did she make a huge impact both in the Prince Albert & Saskatchewan curling communities. But she also took her talents outside our provincial borders, umpiring at numerous national & international events! Curling Canada and the World Curling Federation have recognized Deanna as one of the top officials in Canada. She has umpired at 8 National and 6 International Championships, with her headline events being the World Championships in Japan & the Continental Cup of Curling that takes place down in Las Vegas! Her kind but firm approach to umpiring earned her the respect of competitors and her fellow Umpires abroad.

Deanna & her husband Bryan played a huge role in administering & organizing many large events that came to the Prince Albert area. Including the 2019 Canadian Junior Curling Championships last January.

Deanna was recognized for her long lasting efforts in 2017, as she was inducted into the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame, for her key component towards a large volunteer group at their home club the Prince Albert Golf & Curling Centre.

Deanna leaves behind a legacy for all umpires & officials to strive for. Her striking personality both on and off the curling ice will never be forgotten, and we know for sure that future CURLSASK events will not be the same without Deanna leading the way. CURLSASK will ensure that her legacy remains a part of curling in Saskatchewan, and the sport moving forward.

Deanna leaves behind her husband Bryan Rindal, past president & sportsman of the year recipient of Prince Albert. Along with her daughter Peyton & son Preston.

On behalf of the curling community, our thoughts and prayers are with the Rindal family at this time. She will be dearly missed.
