CASTLEHILL CHESS CLUB OPENS IT DOORS AGAIN AT LAST!
Thurs 21st Oct 21 – 7:30pm – Chaplaincy Centre, Dundee Uni Campus
Oh boy it was good to have the chess club open again for OTB, face to face chess! Seeing our members again and putting faces (and masks!) to the names of some of our new online members at last was fantastic!
Sitting over a 3-dimensional chess board and being able to see and talk to your opponent while playing chess was amazing! Well I say playing chess which in my case was full of mistakes as if I had never seen a 3 dimensional chess board before! Spatial awareness was non-existent in my case, but man it was exhilarating to play “REAL” chess again!
The turnout was fantastic with old and new members turning up and making themselves at home and enjoying playing chess face to face again!
There was also one TAFCA division one match being played online (Castlehill C v Castlehill E), and the Thursday night weekly Online competition, so a lot going on!
It must be noted that as a club and chess in general we are grateful that we could play chess online during the pandemic while the club was closed and made new friends and members. A lot of sports and pastimes could not do this. Indeed the online element will hopefully become a permanent part of our chess club reaching farther a field and even getting us connected again to past members who have moved away from Dundee, even to the other side of the world!
