Another Month, Another FSGM...But No Third Norm for Mishra

0 23

He's knocking on the door and gaining points, and still has until September 5 to break Sergey Karjakin's record to become the youngest (chess) grandmaster in history. He is the American prodigy Abhimanyu Mishra, who entered the latest First Saturday GM tournament in need of one more norm and 15 more points (to reach a rating of 2500) to get the grandmaster title. He gained 7 points (or maybe "has gained" - he has one round to go, but it's not clear if one or more players dropped out of the event), but even if he plays his last round game and wins it, he will only score 6.5/9; if the numbers I've found are accurate, he needs 7/9 for the norm.

Getting closer...
