TAFCA WINTER LEAGUE MATCH REPORT 11/02/21

Division Two – St.Andrews Uni B 0, Castlehill E 4

League leaders Castlehill E continued their dominance of division two with an emphatic victory against St.Andrews Uni B! This keeps them top behind fellow club team mates, Castlehill F and Dundee C by 3 points! St.Andrews Uni B did not help their cause by defaulting the bottom board because they only had 3 players. Indeed if any team finds themselves a player short, they should look no further than Kit McEvoy Gould (1000)est who was bottom board in this match because our “E” team was a player down, He was also playing up for another of our teams and in both he won by default! It seems Kit, your reputation is well known and they are all running scared of you!

Board One: Euan Murray (1500)est CE 1 – 0 Joe Cohen (1300)est STB

Euan was in control of this match right from the beginning and never looked in trouble. Joe tried his best, but could not find any weakness in Euan`s play. But of course being on top does not win games unless you can convert that advantage and Euan did!

St.Andrews Uni B 0, Castlehill E 2 (counting the default!)

Board Two: Amian Banaji (1250)STB 0 – 1 Ed Walton (1481) CE

Ed was slightly under pressure from Amian, but holding his own until a miscalculation on move 20 by Amian lead to a loss of a piece and from there the writing was on the wall! Ed closed out the game with no slip ups!

St.Andrews Uni B 0, Castlehill E 3 (counting the default!)

Board Three: Ognyan Kolev (1450) CE  1 – 0 Matthew Heritage (1200)est STB

Oggy had white but was struggling to take control of the game. His opponent seemed to have every move covered as if he could read his mind! Oggy decided to open the game up to give himself more opportunities to conjure something up and it seemed to be working. As the game was approaching the endgame, Oggy took a bold step and sacrificed his Knight, only for Matthew to decline it twice! Unfortunately for Matthew this Knight came back to bite him in the backside and it was indeed “good Knight”!

St.Andrews Uni B 0, Castlehill E 4 (counting the default!)

Board Four: Eeshaan Sarda (1050)est STB L – W Kit McEvoy Gould

Twice Kit has been asked to play up a team, and twice he has won by default as his opponents went into hiding!

Congratulations to Castlehill E on another fantastic performance and result! Played 5 won 5!
