Billericay Chess Club have announced the sad news that Hugh Tanton passed away on 14th August 2017 at the age of 86 following a serious heart condition.

Hugh was a long time member of Billericay Chess Club. He joined in 1989 and was the club’s Tournaments Officer for many years. Hugh was also a member of the county U120 team and the North Essex Daytime Competition from it's first year until 2015. In his latter years after he stopped driving he continued to play chess at home against members of the Daytime league and Billericay Chess Club until this year. Hugh will be sadly missed by all at the club.
