The Moscow FIDE Grand Prix was the first of the new format of events for the World Chess Championship cycle 2019-20. Pretty much the World Cup KO formula with 16 players and took place 17th to 29th May 2019. Players: Mamedyarov, Giri, Wesly So, Aronian, Grischuk, Nakamura, Karjakin, Nepomniachtchi, Svidler, Radjabov, Jakovenko, Wojtaszek, Wei Yi, Duda, Vitiugov and Dubov. Ian Nepomniachtchi beat Alexander Grischuk in the final 2.5-1.5 after winning the second rapid game.
