The FIDE Women's World Chess Championship match between defending championTan Zhongyi and challenger Ju Wenjun took place 3rd to 20th May. 10 game matchBoth were born in 1991 and are close friends.
The first half of the match was in the "Intercontinental Hotel Puxi, near the historic centre of Shanghai", May 3rd-10th. Then the match moved to Chongqing finishing on May 20th.
Ju Wenjun won the match 5.5-4.5, she led 3.5-1.5 at the half way stage and after losing game 6 won the title by drawing the remaining games.
