One Underrated James Bond Movie Just Got a Killer Sonic Upgrade

While the 1974 007 flick The Man with the Golden Gun is hardly ever listed as anyone's absolute favorite Bond film, it is an iconic moment in cinema for all sorts of incredible reasons. As Roger Moore's second outing as James Bond, you'd think the pressure would be on for this story to go bigger than its predecessor, Live and Let Die. And, in terms of memorable locations, The Man with the Golden Gun delivered. The famous island hideout of the villain Scaramanga (Christopher Lee) made Khao Phing Kan in Thailand so famous that the area is now known as "James Bond Island." But one aspect of The Man with the Golden Gun that gets forgotten is that at the time, it was the triumphant return of beloved composer John Barry. And now, Barry's entire score, previously unreleased, is back as a limited-edition record that is almost certainly going to sell very quickly.

Announced by La-La Land Records on May 5, 2026, a new expanded version of The Man with the Golden Gun will be released in June 2026, as a double LP.

In 1974, Barry had been absent for the previous Bond film, Live and Let Die, which was scored by famed Beatles producer George Martin. In 1977, for The Spy Who Loved Me, the score came from Marvin Hamlisch, meaning that after Golden Gun, Barry wouldn't return to the franchise until 1979's Moonraker. (La La Land's Moonraker double LP sold out very quickly earlier this year.)
