On the morning of April 13, 2026, Netflix dropped the first trailer for its upcoming version of Little House on the Prairie. The roughly one-minute-long video gives fans of the story the first chance to see the iconic Ingalls family depicted in high definition. In addition to showing the upcoming show's gorgeous visuals, it also teased the feel-good drama that has always been at the heart of the story.
The new Little House on the Prairie starring Alice Halsey, Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, and Skywalker Hughes is set to premiere on Netflix on July 9, 2026. Technically speaking, the new show isn't a remake of the original series, which aired on NBC from September 11, 1974, to March 21, 1983. Instead, both series are adapted from the series of long-celebrated books written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Still, most viewers will see the show as a remake because of how impactful the original series was.

The Original 'Little House on the Prairie' Was Ranked as One of the Most Popular TV Shows of All Time
In March 2021, CBS News released its ranking of America's most popular TV shows of all time. It named the 1970s and 1980s version of Little House on the Prairie at number 35. Given how many shows have been produced in the United States over the decades, that ranking was a huge accolade for the series. It was even ranked above other classic shows, like Seinfeld, Friends, House, The Brady Bunch, and All in the Family.
Long before it was included in that prestigious list, the series was already being widely celebrated. The original Little House on the Prairie, which memorably starred Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, and Melissa Sue Anderson, won several Emmy Awards during its run.
