Netflix Announces Major Alan Ritchson News

Alan Ritchson and director Patrick Hughes delivered a smashing success to Netflix with their action sci-fi hit War Machine, which immediately became the second-most watched movie on the streaming platform after Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's The Rip.

In an interview with Men's Journal, Hughes admitted Ritchson's Reacherperformance led to the star actor's casting in the film.

“I think the thing that this role required is a star that’s capable of the big action, but also an incredible sort of vulnerability,” Hughes explains. “There’s a lot of heart and soul in this movie, and it requires that duality. I think that’s what makes Alan so unique as an actor and why I love working with him.”

Now Netflix is dipping back into the Ritchson well.

Netflix Creates New Survival Competition Series With Alan Ritchson

Fresh off the success of War Machine, Netflix is collaborating with Ritchson on a new survival competition series.

"Who better to help you survive in the wilderness than experienced outdoorsman and all around action hero Alan Ritchson?" Netflix asks before detailing the new series.

Ritchson is bringing the new survival competition series from Bunim/Murray Productions to Netflix that promises to test the resilience and grit of a group of high-profile influencers and headline-makers.

"With all the comforts and luxuries of modern-day life stripped away, the players will have to rely on their instincts, determination, and each other to outlast the competition and discover who they are without fame and followers," Netflix outlines as the crux of the show.

Ritchson will help guide the participants through the competition, pushing them beyond their limits and into the unknown.

Showrunner Jay Bienstock, known for launching series including Survivor and The Apprentice, has signed on as an executive producer, alongside Ritchson, Julie Pizzi, Rupert Dobson, Gayani Wanigaratne, and co-executive producer John Faratzis.
