Lionsgate Unveils New Teaser for 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'
Welcome to the 50th Hunger Games. Lionsgate shared a video on YouTube titled "The Hunger Games - Official Franchise Lookback." The 16-minute video chronicles the history of the franchise, from the original The Hunger Games movies starring Jennifer Lawrence as the iconic Katniss Everdeen to the 2023 prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, starring Tom Blyth as a young President Snow and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird.
The studio is promoting its digital collection of all five films released thus far, but it's also looking toward the future (or, well, past) with the next installment in the franchise: The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. This time, we travel back 24 years, before Katniss volunteered "as tribute" and became a symbol of rebellion. Adapting Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel of the same name, the new movie follows 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy as he competes in the titular Hunger Games. However, there's a twist: it's also the Second Quarter Quell, meaning twice the normal number of tributes must participate in the deadly games.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping stars Joseph Zada as Haymitch, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Billy Porter as Magno Stift, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow. Franchise veteran Francis Lawrence returns at the helm as director, with a screenplay by Billy Ray.
Collins originally published Sunrise on the Reaping on Mar. 18, 2025, with the announcement of the film adaptation preceding it by several months. The Hunger Games is a lucrative franchise for Lionsgate, so this should come as no surprise.
Prepare to return to Panem when The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on Nov. 20, 2026. You can fast-forward to the 15:39 mark to check out the new footage for the film.
