According to Kasey Moore from What's on Netflix, all four seasons of Black Sails are set to leave Netflix in the United States on April 17, 2026. That will mark the end of the series' roughly two-year stint on the popular streaming service.

The fan-favorite 2023 animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhemwill also be leaving on the same day.

The Pirate Action Drama Became a Fan Favorite

Black Sails originally aired on Starz between 2014 and 2017. Its story is a prequel to one of the most famous pieces of literary history, Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel "Treasure Island." The show, which was created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, features fictionalized depictions of several real-life historical figures and events.

Designed for mature audiences, the series is known for its graphic violence, frequent nudity, and strong language. Despite those elements that often cause critics to steer clear of a show, it won praise and awards

Over its four-season run, Black Sailsearned three Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and two Visual Effects Society Awards, along with several nominations. Also praised by critics, the show currently holds an impressive 81% Rotten Tomatoes score overall and a perfect 100% for its second season.

The most important indication of its success is how fans feel about it. A post on the r/BlackSails subreddit that asked users to reveal how Black Sails ranks among their favorite series is very telling in that regard. Even though the subreddit obviously would be frequented by fans, the comments on the post were quite remarkable.

The most-upvoted response compared the pirate series to one of the most successful shows ever made. "Black Sails in on par with Game of Thrones at the top of my list. Nothing else is really close." The next most popular reply came from a user who loved the show more than any other. "Number one. No other show can compare to Black Sails." With feedback like that, there is no doubt that the series built a devoted fan following.
