Masters Golfer Punished After Behavior Crosses the Line at Augusta National

0 2

Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre had a day he wishes he could forget on Thursday, carding an 8-over 80 in his first round of the 2026 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.

MacIntyre's worst moment of the match came in the middle of the 15th fairway, where he dumped two approach shots into the pond in front of the par-5 green.

After one of his shots splashed down in the water, the fiery Scotsman flipped a middle finger toward the green. All of this was captured on the Masters broadcast.

The Augusta National Golf Club is famous for its strict code of conduct and regulations. So naturally, tournament officials weren't thrilled about this behavior from MacIntyre.

MacIntyre was issued an official reprimand and reminded of the tournament's code of conduct after his disastrous first round, according to a report from golf writer Martin Dempster of The Scotsman.

In addition to his middle finger debacle on No. 15, MacIntyre was also caught on a hot mic using foul language on holes No. 12 and 13. The 29-year-old golfer also slammed his club into the fairway after a disappointing approach shot on No. 17.

MacIntyre did not speak with reporters who were waiting for him after his first round.

MacIntyre's second round at the Masters began with more of the same, a double-bogey on the par-4 first hole. After a par on the par-5 second, he bounced back with back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and No. 4.

MacIntyre will need to go extremely low if he wants any chance to play the weekend. As of Friday morning, the project cut line is around 3 or 4-over par.
