Popular Retail Chain Shutting Down 100 Stores and Ending 2 Iconic Brands

It's always a sad thing when a longtime retail store closes locations, but that's especially the case when it's a store that's been in the community for years or even decades.

Now, Signet Jewelers, which has popular store brands such as Kay Jewelers, Zales and Jared, has announced that it's restructuring its brand portfolio to cater to higher-growth opportunities. Signet shared the news during its fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 earnings call.

The good news is that if you're a fan of Kay Jewelers, Zales and Jared, the company says that it's going to prioritize around those three longstanding brands.

Store Closings: Signet to Close 100 Stores in Fiscal 2027, But Company Will Still Have Over 2,000 Locations

But, as part of the move forward, Signet is also shutting down stores. In this new phase, Signet says that it plans to close 100 stores in fiscal 2027.

The company also plans to move two of its brands into existing ones. James Allen will become a proprietary collection within Blue Nile, and Rocksbox will be folded into Kay Jewelers. Renovations are also on tap. Signet plans to renovate 10% of its stores, according to the company, after seeing same-store sales improve after similar renovations.

So, according to the company's 10-K filing, as of the end of January, Signet operated 2,582 locations, including 2,238 in the U.S., 91 in Canada and 253 internationally. Now, they'll be closing 100 of those spots, so at least that still leaves a large number of locations open.

Signet hasn't announced which stores will close their doors, but the closures are expected to be at locations that have been underperforming. Signet also stated that it will continue to "rationalize its store footprint" to improve productivity and make for a better in-store experience.

Signet, according to their official website, is a publicly-traded company and operates the name brands of Kay Jewelers, Zales, Jared, Banter by Piercing Pagoda, Diamonds Direct, Blue Nile, James Allen, Peoples Jewellers, H.Samuel and Ernest Jones.
