Thanks to Artemis II’s Live Feed, One Snack Brand Gets Amazing Free Publicity
If you’ve been keeping up with current events in the US and pop culture, then you know NASA is in the midst of its Artemis II mission to the moon. The 10-day mission that launched on April 1 sees NASA astronauts Victor Glover, Reid Wiseman, and Christina Koch (along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen) venture to the moon.
The trip marks a historic moment in space travel on several fronts. As NASA puts it, this marks the “first crewed lunar flyby in more than 50 years.” Additionally, Glover is on track to become the first Black astronaut to orbit the moon, and Koch is the first woman to travel beyond low-Earth orbit.
That being said, this space venture is also becoming quite fascinating to witness, all thanks to NASA’s live feed. In live-feed footage airing on April 6, the momentous occasion of the voyage was slightly overshadowed by a famous snack product that was spotted floating past the cameras.

In the following clip, which is roughly 15 seconds, you’ll spot that as the astronauts are floating in the spacecraft, keeping themselves occupied. Then all of a sudden, a jar of Nutella Hazelnut and Cocoa Spread floats by the camera in plain view. Take a look at the video below.

You can’t buy this type of advertising if you’re a food brand. To have your product prominently featured in live footage for a historic space mission such as this is huge. This may be even bigger than brands showcasing their products in Super Bowl commercials. Heck, the Artemis II footage of Nutella is even sweeter because the product placement was completely free, unlike a Super Bowl ad that costs millions. While it’s too early to tell if the image will have Nutella flying off the shelves in stores, the video is certainly being talked about on social media.
