Carroll Wiseman's Cause of Death: How Did Reid Wiseman's Wife Die?

The Artemis II astronauts made a moving, and enduring tribute, to Carroll Wiseman, the late wife of their commander, Reid Wiseman. They named a never-before-seen crater on the moon after Carroll.

"To commemorate the Artemis II mission, the astronauts announced their suggestion to rename certain features on the Moon to honor their Orion spacecraft, named Integrity, as well as commander Reid Wiseman’s late wife, Carroll," NASA wrote on Instagram.

That has a lot of people wondering about Carroll Wiseman's cause of death. How did she die?

Carroll Wiseman's Cause of Death Was Cancer

Carroll Taylor Wiseman, 46, passed away in May 2020 "in Friendswood, Texas following a five-year battle with cancer," according to her obituary.

"Carroll, a native of Virginia Beach, was the daughter of Waller and Anne Taylor. She was a graduate of First Colonial High School, James Madison University, and Virginia Commonwealth University," the obit reads.

"Upon graduation as a pediatric nurse practitioner, Carroll worked at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) and as a school nurse in Patuxent River, MD and later in Friendswood, TX," it adds.

Astronaut Jeremy Hansen Revealed That the 'Bright Spot on the Moon' Will Be Called Carroll

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen announced that the crater would be named after Carroll, saying: “A number of years ago, we started this journey in our close-knit astronaut family and we lost a loved one. And there is a feature in a really neat place on the Moon, and it is on the nearside/farside boundary. In fact, it’s just on the nearside of that boundary, and so at certain times of the Moon’s transit around Earth, we will be able to see this from Earth."

He continued: “And so we lost a loved one. Her name was Carroll, the spouse of Reid, the mother of Katie and Ellie. And if you want to find this one, you look at Glushko, and it’s just to the northwest of that, at the same latitude as Ohm, and it’s a bright spot on the Moon. And we would like to call it Carroll.”

The astronauts then embraced Wiseman. He and they wiped away tears and Hansen's voice cracked as he read the suggestion aloud.

There is precedent for this. Apollo 8 astronaut Jim Lovell suggested renaming a moon crater after his wife Marilyn, and years later that did occur.

Reid Wiseman Made a Heart Gesture for His 2 Daughters With Wife Carroll

Reid Wiseman's love for the couple's two daughters has been self-evident during the historic mission. He held his hands up in a heart gesture for the daughters as Artemis II broke the record for the longest journey away from Earth by any human, according to KOAT-TV.

"All I feel is gratitude for this experience," he wrote in another Instagram post during the lunar journey. The Artemis II is traveling around the moon, a feat that has never been attempted before in human history.
