Another Popular Craft Brewery Files for Bankruptcy as Industry Struggles Continue

0 22

Another craft brewery has filed for bankruptcy, adding to a growing and worrisome trend across the beer industry. After years of rapid growth, which changed how Americans drink, many independent craft breweries have been shutting down in recent years. Rising costs, shifting tastes, and tough competition have left the sector's future uncertain, and the recent filing by 3rd Level Brewing drives that point home.

In April 2026, The Street reported that Texas-based 3rd Level Brewing LLC had filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection as it is seeking to liquidate assets. The business was launched in June 2023 by Clint Bradley and Ross Winner, who'd previously hosted a podcast called "3 Beers In." Themed after the owners' passion for comics and video games, it operates as a brewery and a taproom that is family and pet-friendly.

The Street spoke with co-founder Clint Bradley, who revealed the team plans to keep the doors open as long as possible. “We’ll see how this plays out. We’re going to operate as normal until someone tells me I have to stop operating.” He added that they had previously expected to be shut down by late 2025. “I thought for sure we would not be open in December.”

The filing comes after the owners previously launched a GoFundMe in 2025 to help keep the business alive. While they initially were seeking just $3,500, strong community support pushed donations to $13,000, according to The Street. Bradley told the outlet that the money was refunded to the GoFundMe contributors once it became clear bankruptcy was necessary. Customers' appreciation for the business also shows up clearly on Yelp, where it holds a solid 4.6 out of 5 stars. Before the Chapter 7 filing, the business was facing foreclosure, which has now been put on hold.

Geeky Brewery’s Bankruptcy Spotlights Craft Beer Struggles

For fans who love the distinctive flavors and local feel of craft beer, the signs that the industry is in trouble are becoming hard to ignore. For example, The U.S. Sun reported in January 2026 that Missouri's 4 By 4 Brewing filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which shows that other companies are following the same path 3rd Level Brewery is on.

A February 2026 Tasting Table article truly underlined how much peril the craft beer industry is now in. According to the Brewers Association's 2025 Year in Beer report, only 268 craft breweries opened in the United States that year, while 434 closed. The outlet also reported the same pattern held in 2024, with more closures than openings. Two straight years of decline send a worrying signal to everyone who cares about the industry about its future.
