Your Backyard Grill Setup Could Be Hiding a Brutal Safety Risk

0 0

Grilling season is finally here for much of the country – at least not the parts dealing with the second of back-to-back winter storms bringing heavy snow and ice accumulations.

With warmer weather around the corner grills will once again be fired up around the country, but a stern warning was issued on April 2.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning customers to stop using a particular portable outdoor grill table due to the risk of amputation and crushing injuries.

Apromise Portable Grill Tables Causing Injury

The CPSC warned consumers to immediately stop using Apromise Portable Outdoor Grill Tables, Model GCNJ2401B, due to the risk of fingertip amputation and crushing injuries when the products fold or collapse.

"CPSC is aware of at least 15 incidents associated with the use of these products," the warning read.

How The Injuries Happen

The warning reveals reports of incidents where consumers’ fingers have been caught in pinch point areas, including the sliding track for the legs of the product, when the product folds or collapses, resulting in at least seven fingertip amputations, a fractured finger and a laceration requiring sutures.

Explanation of the Dangerous Product

The grill tables are made of steel and have an opening in which various tabletop grills can be placed. The tables have wheels on one side of the base, a side shelf, a paper towel holder and hooks for grilling accessories.

The products were sold by Apro Direct, of China, online on Amazon.com and on eBay. Apro Direct has not agreed to recall the products, according to the CPSC.

In addition to the CPSC warning consumers to stop using the grill tables, the safety department also told consumers to dispose of the grill tables instead of selling them or giving them away.
