When Was The Last Time Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson Both Didn't Play the Masters?
Two days ago Tiger Woods announced he would be taking a step away as he sought treatment following a rollover car accident late last month.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," the 15-time major champion said in a statement posted to his social media accounts Tuesday night. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.
"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
Phil Mickelson Won't Play in the Masters
Just two days later, Phil Mickelson announced he, too, won't be competing in the Masters next week.
"Unfortunately, I will not play in the Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health mater," Mickelson said in a post on social media.
"I have great respect for Augusta National Golf Club and it is definitely the most special week of the year. I wish everyone the best of luck and will be watching."
Mickelson previously announced he wouldn't compete in the first two events of the LIV Golf season.
“I will not be able to participate in the first two LIV events as Amy and I need to be present for a family health matter,” Mickelson wrote. “I can’t wait to compete again and look forward to rejoining my teammates as soon as possible.”
The three-time Masters champion eventually missed the first four tournaments of the season before returning in South Africa.
