Costco’s Bizarre New Bourbon Is Inspired by a Food Court Staple

0 2

April Fools' Day has come and gone, but this is no joke. Costco just had a custom bourbon inspired by one of its most popular food court items: the hot dog.

"I Got That Dog In Me" is a premium single barrel bourbon produced by Rare Character Whiskey, with a picture of the food court's famous $1.50 dog right on the label.

Unlike its all-beef inspiration, this custom bourbon is anything but a bargain. Aged for 11 years and four months, it sells for $85.99 a bottle and is 126 proof — meaning 63% alcohol! This is a sipping bourbon if there ever was one. According to tasters, it's pretty worth it.

"I get lots of oak, marshmallow, and maybe something spicy that I can't quite name? Cardamom or cinnamon maybe?" a Redditor wrote. "A little leather on the nose for me. The finish goes on forever." They added, "Excellent bottle, and happy to pay what I paid for it."

Unfortunately (or fortunately), the hot dog branding is nothing but a marketing ploy. There's no hot dog flavor present in the bourbon.

Good Luck Getting Costco's Hot Dog Bourbon

Want to try the hot dog bourbon for yourself? Good luck! The bottle was only available in stores in the Washington, D.C. area — and it's already gone. "It was one single barrel only and sold out in hours," Rare Character co-founder Pete Nevenglosky told Fox News.

It turns out creative bourbon labels are part of the company's schtick. "Our single barrel series is driven by unique whiskeys that are always rotating along with a custom artwork component," Nevenglosky said. "We have partnered with thousands of retailers, restaurants and whiskey clubs, with every barrel having its own unique label."

One bottle, created for Red Hot Liquors in Tennessee, features realistic artwork of a T-rex showing all its teeth. A less scary one, created for Dan's Package Store, features frosted donuts on pastel backdrops.
