Meet Kia's New Compact EV With 300+ Miles Of Range

0 2

The new Kia EV3 looks like a lot of the brand's other EVs. It's a good thing: models like the EV9 and EV6 are strong sellers and great EVs in their own right. However, the smallest of the bunch, the new 2027 EV3, has to deliver on the things that make these vehicles great, but at a more affordable price point. On paper, the EV3 has the spec sheet to back up its claims, but pricing remains a mystery.

For now, know that the new EV3 will hopefully deliver on that final point by way of a lengthy list of standard features. That includes a pair of 12.3-inch screens, dual-zone automatic climate control, and reclining rear seats for more room. Kia will also offer luxuries like ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and a 360-degree camera system.

Speaking of standard, base models will be available with a 58.3-kilowatt-hour battery, with the option of a longer-range 81.4-kWh pack. A single electric motor sits at the front axle, lest the buyer opt for the available dual-motor all-wheel drive system. Regardless of drivetrain, Kia says you'll be able to go from 10 to 80 percent charge in about half an hour at a compatible DC fast charger thanks to the EV's 400-volt architecture.

As for range, base FWD models will do around 220 miles, or up to 320 miles with the larger battery. Adding all-wheel drive will no doubt reduce range, but by how much, Kia didn't say. All-wheel drive will add power, though, to the tune of 261 horsepower, while sporty GT models will get 288 horsepower. The GT is intended to be a sort of electric hot-hatch-crossover-thing. Stiffer suspension and a new steering setup will help it feel more alive, and sporty accents and bucket seats will also feature.

Pricing, as mentioned above, is TBD, though we should have it soon enough: Kia says the EV3 will go on sale later this year.
