Hate Cleaning Your Oven Door? This $1 Hack Works Fast
No one likes cleaning their oven door. Sure, more ovens these days have a self cleaning option, but running the self cleaner takes hours and can leave your home smelling like burnt food while releasing dangerous fumes into your home. And if only your door needs cleaning, using the self cleaning option is overkill and may not even work.
Luckily there’s a solution lying just a few feet away from your oven–dishwasher pods. These little pods contain everything you need to give your oven a good cleaning. The detergent is abrasive enough to scour the oven’s insides, removing baked food while the liquid inside is adept at cutting grease build up.

How to Clean Your Oven Door Using a Dishwasher Pod
- Step 1: Remove the oven racks and clean them using a sponge and warm soapy water.
- Step 2: Fill a bowl with hot tap water then pop out the red ball in the dishwasher tablet and place it in the water
- Step 3: Dip the hard tablet in the water and begin scrubbing the oven door with it. Apply firm pressure but don’t push too hard or you’ll end up breaking the tab. The detergent in the tab will begin to break down the grease and grime on the oven door. As you’re scrubbing, periodically return the tab to the bowl of water to keep it moist.
- Step 4: Your tab will begin to break down as you're scrubbing the window. If the tab deteriorates before you’ve finished scrubbing, you may need to use a second tab.
- Step 5: Use a paper towel to periodically wipe away the grease, so you can see what parts of the oven door window still need to be scrubbed.
- Step 6: Once you’re satisfied with the glass, move to the door frame and continue scrubbing.
- Step 7: After cleaning the oven door and window, use a wet paper or microfiber cloth to remove all of the soap residue. Spray it down with a solution of water and vinegar to remove any streaks from the window.
