Sophie Turner Injured Filming Tomb Raider TV Show
Sometimes even Lara Croft needs a break.
Filming on Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider series has been halted, after star Sophie Turner was reportedly hurt during production.
In a statement, Amazon MGM Studios told Variety, “Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury.” The studio added, “As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”
No other details about her injury have been confirmed at this time, though The Sun sources say she aggravated a previously-existing back injury.
What Is Tomb Raider About?
Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series is inspired by the video game franchise of the same name, featuring relic hunter Lara Croft. Per the streamer, the series, like the games, will follow the “adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer.”
It’s unclear at this time whether any of the games will be directly adapted for the series. The show comes from Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner on the series. Jonathan Van Tulleken was named as director and executive producer.
Turner’s casting as the globe-trotting video game heroine was first announced in September 2025, with production kicking off in January.
“I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara. She has always felt for me, very emboldened in a male dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model!" Turner said when she was cast on the series.
Added Waller-Bridge: “Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters. I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favorites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams!”
Who Else Is In the Tomb Raider Cast?
In January, Prime Video announced the rest of the main cast for the show.
Among them was Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, described as a “mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents.” Jason Isaacs, meanwhile, will play Lara’s uncle, Atlas DeMornay.
Martin Bobb-Semple will play video game character Zip, Lara’s tech support and friend, while Bill Paterson will star as Winston, Croft’s butler.
Jack Bannon is Gerry, Lara’s “personal pilot and snack collector,” Celia Imrie and Juliette Motamed will play employees of the British Museum, Paterson Joseph stars as Thomas Warner—described as “a senior government official brought in to clean up an almighty mess”—while Sasha Luss will play a “fierce, deeply competitive new adversary” of Croft’s, also named Sasha.
And then there’s August Wittgenstein’s Lukas, who is an “illegal raider who shares history with Lara in more ways than one.”

The first full photo of Tuner in costume as Croft was revealed in January, as Amazon MGM Studios kicked off production on the series.
In it, Turner rocks many of the character’s trademark accessories, including her sunglasses, green tank top, holster, braid and double pistols.
Turner’s incarnation of Croft comes after Angelina Jolie previously played the character in two feature films in 2001 and 2003. Alicia Vikander, meanwhile, starred as Lara in a 2018 film inspired by the 2013 video game, while Hayley Atwell voiced the character for an adult-animated series at Netflix for two seasons.
