BTS's RM Injury Worries Fans Ahead of 'Arirang' World Tour

The boys are back! But not without injury.

It was announced by BigHit label on March 20th through Weverse (a South Korean app where global artists connect directly with fans), that RM, the band's leader, "suffered an ankle injury" during rehearsals. The rapper was taken to the hospital, where he underwent a "detailed" examination and treatment.

What Happened to RM's Ankle?

The Weverse statement said: "A medical diagnosis confirmed a sprain of the accessory navicular, a partial ligament tear and a talus contusion (which includes ligament damage and inflammation)."

The diagnosis included that RM must wear a cast and "limit movement" for at least two weeks. Due to the recovery process, BigHit shared that the leader's on-stage performance, including choreography, will be "partially limited."

"While RM expressed a firm commitment to deliver a high-quality performance at this symbolic comeback stage at Gwanghwamun, the company, in close consultation with the artist, has made the decision to prioritize the medical opinion to preemptively prevent any further strain on his injury," the statement said. "We ask for your kind understanding regarding this matter. We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause, given the high anticipation surrounding this performance."

Fans can still rejoice in seeing RM on stage, the label added, "Although RM’s on-stage performance will inevitably be limited, he will do his best to participate on stage and engage with ARMY and the audience. We know you have waited a long time for this performance, and we will put our utmost effort into delivering a heartfelt show."

What's Next For BTS?

This past week, after a near four-year hiatus, BTS returned to the stage at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. It was a highly anticipated event where thousands of fans gathered to catch the worldwide K-pop act, including those at home, where the performance was live-streamed on Netflix.

All seven members clad in black performed their greatest hits, including RM, who was at times partially seated but also stood to perform his parts with the group.

What's next for BTS will be kicking off their 'ARIRANG' world tour in Goyang, South Korea, starting April 9. The tour will last until 2027 and encompass "79 dates globally in more than 34 cities."
