Tiger Woods Is Back, But Will He Play at The Masters?
If it felt like Tiger Woods was building toward a return at The Masters, that wasn’t by accident. Just a few weeks ago, Woods left the door open. He even hinted there was a real chance he’d tee it up at Augusta, which was enough to get the golf world buzzing about another comeback.
Now, with the Masters quickly approaching, even amid his upcoming TGL appearance, that tone has shifted.
“I’ve been working on it,” Woods said recently. “Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days.” That’s not a definitive answer, but it’s a much more cautious one.
Tiger Woods' Recovery is Far From Simple
Woods isn’t just working his way back from a typical injury. He’s coming off a lumbar disc replacement, adding to a long list of procedures that have piled up over the years. He even referenced Will Zalatoris, who underwent a similar surgery, noting that recovery takes time.
More telling was how Woods described his day-to-day reality. Some days, he feels like he can do almost anything. Other days, it’s difficult just to move around. That kind of inconsistency is the biggest hurdle, and it’s one that doesn’t line up well with a major championship.

Augusta National isn’t just another stop on the schedule. It’s one of the most physically demanding walks in golf. The elevation changes alone can wear down fully healthy players over four rounds, let alone someone still figuring out how their body will respond day to day.
That’s what makes this situation tricky. Woods doesn’t just need to feel good for a practice round or two. He needs to string together multiple “good days” in a row ... and then sustain that through one of the toughest tests in the sport.
Right now, there’s no clear sign that’s happening.
