19-Year-Old Female Boxer in a Coma After Violent Knockout Fight—Opponent Speaks Out
North Dakota fighter Isis Sio is still in the hospital following her knockout loss to Jocelyn Camarillo, and she is currently in a medically induced coma.
The 19-year-old boxer is said to be in critical condition after being knocked out during a boxing match on Saturday night in San Bernardino, California, per ESPN. Sio, who has a record of 1-3, got injured during a four-round bout against undefeated fighter Jocelyn Camarillo at the Orange Show Events Center.
The Aftermath
The event organizer, ProBoxTV, revealed that Isis got injured after receiving several body shots during the first round of the fight. When she stepped back and covered herself, Camarillo went on to connect four punches to Isis’s head, which caused her to fall to the mat.
Immediately after her fall, medical personnel got a stretcher to take Isis out of the arena for medical treatment. Reports say she was seen convulsing on the stretcher, adding to concern for her health and safety. On Sunday, ProBoxTV announced that Isis was admitted to the intensive care unit at Loma Linda University Health Medical Center for treatment and put into a coma.
“On behalf of CEO Garry Jonas and the entire ProBox family, we are praying for a speedy recovery for Isis Sio. Ms. Sio is currently in a medically induced coma," the organizer wrote on social media. "Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time. Please join us in wishing for a full recovery.”

21-year-old Camarillo, who now has a record of 6-0, had not gotten a knockout before the fight with Sio on Saturday. Shortly after the fight, but before learning of Sio’s condition, she told reporters, “I’m happy. But I also feel a little guilty.”
Isis' Opponent Responds
Upon learning of her opponents condition, Camarillo posted a message sending prayers for Sio's recovery.
“Lord Jesus, we come before you with faith and urgency. Lifting up Isis [Sio] into your loving hands. Lord, you are the ultimate healer, the great physician, and we ask for your divine touch over her body," she wrote.
Shortly after her first statement, Camarillo posted again to her Instagram Story responding to the comments she's seen about her knockout win.
"First and foremost, my opponent has been on my mind and I'm truly relieved that she's okay," she began. "I would never want anything bad to happen to anyone I share the ring with. This sport is dangerous, and we all step in there knowing what's at risk."
Jocelyn continued, "That was my first KO victory, and in the moment I was overwhelmed with emotion. I was proud, excited, and honestly just reacting. It was never from a place of disrespect of lack of sportsmanship."
"As soon as it registered what was happening, my energy shifted," she wrote. "I took a knee and my concern was with her. Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a malicious person. What's harder is feeling judged and attacked, especially during a moment that's already been a lot for me to take in."
She ended her statement by writing, "Much respect to Isis Sio."
This fight and subsequent knockout came just 50 days after Sio returned from another knockout loss. Following a fight held on January 30, Sio was issued a 30-day suspension, as mandated by California boxing authorities. As of Sunday evening, her condition remains critical.
