Rio Mayor Bans Chappell Roan From Major Event
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro has banned Chappell Roan from performing at one of the city’s largest music events following the singer’s security’s recent confrontation with the family of Brazillian soccer playerJorginho.
Eduardo Cavaliere announced on X that the pop star will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio while he is in charge, and offered an invitation to Jorginho’s daughter to attend the upcoming edition as an honored guest.
“I mean that as long as I'm in charge of our city, this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio!” Cavaliere wrote. “I doubt that Shakira would do that! By the way, @FrelloJorginho your little one is already the guest of honor of the organization in May!”

Todo Mundo no Rio, which translates to “Everyone in Rio,” is a series of free international music events held on Copacabana Beach in May. The event promotes the city’s economy and tourism and is funded by the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro and private sponsors. Madonna headlined its inaugural edition in 2024, followed by Lady Gaga in 2025. Shakira is set to headline the next edition which is scheduled for the first Saturday of May.
The mayor’s comments come a few hours after Jorginho detailed a “disproportionate” encounter between his family and a security guard working for Chappell Roan at a hotel in São Paulo. The incident occurred while Jorginho’s wife and 11-year-old stepdaughter were staying at the same hotel as the singer during Lollapalooza Brasil. The family has not publicly confirmed which child was involved, but Jorginho’s wife, Catherine Harding, shared a photo of her daughter Ada from the festival.
Chappell Roan has not responded to Jorginho’s or the mayor’s remarks.
