How One Viral Moment Sent Fast Food Sales Soaring
Chipotle went viral on Friday, March 13th, for its one-hour “Tatted Like a Chipotle Bag” campaign. The brand took to social media to make a major announcement:

Chipotle partnered up with rapper Swae Lee to promote the event. He's collaborated with
Madonna, Ellie Goulding, and Post Malone.
"Not every brand can ask customers to wear their love on their skin and have them show up in droves. The fact that a one-hour, in-restaurant offer became the biggest sales day in our history speaks volumes about the passion of our community and the power of leaning into what makes Chipotle unique," said Stephanie Sotelo Perdue, Interim Chief Marketing Officer, in a news release.
The promotion drew inspiration from popular memes about people being “tatted like a Chipotle bag.” Chipotle invited fans to show up in-restaurant during the one-hour window with any tattoo to unlock the BOGO.
It's not clear whether having a tattoo of the brand name itself scored diners any extra guac, but we're curious about that too.
