Two Children Found Alone in Texas Bayou Leads to Tragic Discovery

A Texas father and his 4-year-old son are dead after a family fishing trip ended in tragedy.

The bodies of a 28-year-old dad and one of his children, a 4-year-old boy, were recovered from the bayou waters on Wednesday. Per PEOPLE, citing the Texas Game Wardens, the father was identified as Klo Moo.

Father and Son Go Missing

In a press release from the Texas Game Wardens—the law enforcement division of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department—they were notified about an “overdue family” who had been fishing at Hog Bayou on Wednesday by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

That same morning, maintenance crews from the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) discovered two children, ages 4 and 6, totally alone at the Hog Bayou boat ramp. Per authorities, they said “they had been fishing late the previous night when another sibling, a 4-year-old boy, entered the water.”

The children said their father then “immediately went in to rescue the child,” but neither of them resurfaced.

Recovery Efforts

“While game wardens and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) searched Hog Bayou, additional crews searched the shoreline and surrounding areas,” reads a press release, which includes the photo above of the search.

A fixed-wing aircraft and drone both utilized thermal technology to assist in the search.

Tragically, the father's body was discovered around 1pm, before the child was also located around 2:30pm.

“We appreciate the care GBRA provided to the children and the support [Texas Division of Emergency Management] and [Hunter Hadley’s Quest, Inc] gave to family members,” Texas Game Wardens said in a statement, which added that HHQ—a local non-profit and “FEMA Certified Community Emergency Response Team”—also vowed to “continue to assist the family and provide additional care and support in the days ahead.”

“Our thoughts remain with the victims’ loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the Wardens concluded.

Per HHQ, the adult victim was the family's “sole provider.” They're accepting donations to support the family at this time.
