Channing Tatum Crashes the Oscars With Hilarious 'Magic Mike' Callback
Although Magic Mike was first released in 2012, the iconic Channing Tatum-led film is about the titular erotic dancer. And, during the 2026 Academy Awards, Tatum made an unexpected, but hilarious callback to the film that made him so famous.
During the presentation of the awards for best adapted screenplay and best original screenplay, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. made jokes about giving each other gifts for the 14th anniversary of the first Avengers movie, which, ironically or not, also was released in 2012, the same exact summer as Magic Mike. While Evans claimed to have gotten Downey Jr. a signed script, later, Downey Jr. gifted Evans with one of Tatum's original sequined thongs from Magic Mike.
And, just when Downey Jr. noted that the thong had some "light use," Tatum himself called from the audience, "I'm gonna need that back." When asked why, Tatum said he was "working later."
Obviously, this was all a bit, and there's little chance that Tatum is stripping on the side. But could there be a fourth Magic Mike sequel, ever? Magic Mike'sLast Dance hit theaters in 2023, which makes it seem like that's the end of the road for Mike. Then again, maybe Tatum's joke means he's ready to put that thong back on again, while taking off everything else.
