Fans Notice Several Actors Snubbed From the Oscars' In Memoriam

Following the In Memoriam segment at this year's 98th Academy Awards, several social media users expressed their frustration with this year's ceremony, for failing to mention several celebrated actors and pioneering forces in modern cinema who have passed away over the last 12 months.

Several stars received touching tributes at this year's ceremony, including Robert Redford, who was posthumously serenaded with a heartfelt salute from his former co-star, Barbra Streisand. Other stars, including the actor-turned-filmmaker Rob Reiner, received a tribute from Billy Crystal, who starred in his 1989 romcom classic, When Harry Met Sally. Actress Rachel McAdams also gave a fitting speech about the women in film we have lost recently.

Fans React to Bridgitte Bardot, James Van Der Beek, and More In Memoriam Omissions

Among the names not recognized during the live ceremony were James Van Der BeekEric Dane, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner, a decision possibly made by the Academy due to the fact they were mainly TV actors.

Fans of the late stars, however, felt differently about their absence from the ceremony.

One user pointed out that the Oscars weren't exactly strict about including famous figures associated only with films. "Giorgio Armani in the In Memoriam but not Eric Dane nor James Van der Beek is kind of crazy lmao," @okay__work wrote, referring to the late fashion designer.

"Unless I missed it…..did they show or acknowledge Malcolm Jamal Warner in this In Memoriam???? Hell they missed a bunch in my opinion that passed!! #Oscars" user @KaiiStarr wrote.

Robert Carradine, June Lockhart,Bud Cort, and Brigitte Bardot, who are better known for film, also weren't mentioned during the on-air In Memoriam.

Some theorized the late French actress and screen siren wasn't included because of her political views.

"This year's Oscar "In Memoriam" tribute video didn't include Brigitte Bardot. Last year they didn't mention Alain Delon. This is embarrassing to say the least," film Twitter account @DannyDrinksWine.

"I assume they were excluded because of their politics, but the job of the Academy is to remember them for their contributions to Cinema," they continued. "Their political opinions shouldn't come into consideration here. I too don't agree with their politics, but I can still celebrate them for their performances on screen. I hope this trend doesn't continue."
