Fans React After Amy Madigan Wins Oscar Over Teyana Taylor

0 6

It's one of the most competitive categories at this year's Academy Awards — and either result would've split fans down the middle.

Amy Madigan's win for Best Supporting Actress for her terrifying role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons over Teyana Taylor's role for One Battle Another is a celebration for many, but a huge disappointment for fans of the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed epic.

The tight competition has seen both actresses win major gongs during this year's awards season. Taylor won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress this year, also winning as part of the Best Ensemble Award at the Critics' Choice Awards. Madigan, on the other hand, had been dominating the awards race until more recently, winning the Actor Awards Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role prize and the Critics' Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The two actresses have been gracious during this awards season. Madigan gave the actress a shout-out during her acceptance speech, while Taylor was the first to leap out of her seat after the Weapons actress won.

"Amy Madigan imma let you finish but..." @nniamhy posted on X (formerly Twitter), attaching a gif of Kanye West's infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's speech at the VMAs, declaring Beyoncéshould've won.

"Teyana Taylor was robbed, whatever. #oscars," @EkpoNeptune posted. Similarly, "teyana taylor you will always be famous #oscars" @nuclearbroadcast said.

Other, more favorable, tweets about Madigan's win praised a win for the horror genre — a rare feat at the Academy Awards, who are often accused for snubbing the genre. "I'm never going to hate a horror movie winning and acting Oscar because that so rarely happens," @ChaseEver91989 responded. "Amy Madigan's speech was delightful."

Others were a little more optimistic in their approach. "Wunmi Mosaku and Teyana Taylor will both be #Oscar winners one day," @DirectorRB3 said. "This won’t be the last time we or @TheAcademy see great performances from them."

Amy's speech, where she shouted out her husband, fellow actor Ed Harris, also received praise. "I loveeee the look Ed Harris gives wife Amy Madigan after her name is called for Supporting Actress at the Oscars," @SpencerAlthouse said. "so cute."

Others, however, opted for the other incredible supporting actress performances in the stacked category. "WUNMI MOSAKU WAS ROBBED!!!!!!!!" @kaludiasays wrote, referring to the Sinners standout.

"In an ideal world my queens Wunmi Mosaku & Teyana Taylor would’ve tied for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars!!" @ragingmotelfire said similarly.

"Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas you are an Oscar winner in my heart," @GayPublix wrote, referring to the two Sentimental Value nominees.
