Why We Love This Deal

At this point, we all know prolonged sun exposure is bad for your skin, but some people either forget, or don’t like dealing with sunscreen all the time. That’s where UPF clothing comes in. And if you want something reliable and well-built, Columbia’s sun-blocking hoodie is 40% off at the moment.

The $80 Columbia DriVenture Hooded Pullover is now just $48 through the brand’s site. All sizes and colorways are priced the same, but you can head to Backcountry to grab it at the same price if your size/preferred color runs out.

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Material: 55% polypropylene, 45% polyester performance fabric
  • Fit: Active
  • Sun Protection: UPF 50
  • Best For: Hiking, outdoor training, running

This hoodie is a lightweight technical layer that’s most effective during long hikes and outdoor excursions when the sun is out. It’s made with the brand’s Omni-Wick Evap fabric to wick sweat and dry fast, with Omni-Shade UPF 50 protection to block UV rays. What sets it apart from your average sun hoodie is the tall, scuba-style hood and higher neck coverage, giving you full neck protection. The thumbholes make sure your sleeves don’t expose your hands or arms, too.

If we compare this to something like REI’s Sahara Shade Hoodie, you’ll see that Columbia’s take has more coverage (and is cheaper with this sale). Both picks use a similar stretchy, moisture-wicking fabric with UPF 50 protection, but the DriVenture has a higher neck and thumbholes to better protect your hands and neck.

What Shoppers Are Saying

This is a somewhat newer release that dropped in the middle of last year, so reviews are still coming in. That said, the hoodie is sitting at a perfect five-star rating at the moment, and one of those reviewers wrote that it’s a “nice layer for cooler weather,” and “a little thicker than most sun hoodies.”

The extra details in this hoodie really add to the protection, and one shopper said, “Love the thumb holds. Bonus for the SPF protection.” This same reviewer also commented on the comfort, writing that the hoodie is “light and so comfy.”

Hiking season is nearly here, and if you want to be protected on the trails, the Columbia DriVenture Hooded Pullover is a great pick, especially for under $50. These Columbia deals tend to sell out pretty quickly, so you should grab a hoodie that fits while you still can.
