'Project Hail Mary' Debuts With Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
Ryan Gosling's incredible space adventure is racing toward its theatrical release date, and the reviews are finally in. And, if these reviews are to be believed, the new film Project Hail Mary will kick off summer blockbuster season early, because so far, this is clearly the movie to beat in 2026.
Here's Project Hail Mary's Rotten Tomatoes Score, its staggered upcoming release dates,, whether or not experts think the film will break box office records, and why, in the words of Rocky the alien, the film could be totally "amaze!"
Project Hail Mary Rotten Tomatoes Score
As of March 10, 2026, with reviews for several major outlets having been tabulated, Project Hail Mary is riding high with a "Fresh" Rotten Tomatoes score of 95 percent. The individual reviews for the film are mostly glowing, with some noting that there's a bit of blockbuster fluff injected into the hardcore science fiction novel's source material. (Project Hail Mary is adapted from the 2021 Andy Weir novel of the same name, and he's probably best known for The Martian.)
Writing for Inverse film critic Hoai-Tran Bui noted, the film is "popcorn sci-fi at its most crowdpleasing." Meanwhile, Lindsey Shannon Miller, writing for Consequence said: "Project Hail Mary is a movie that believes it’s possible to save the world. It dares to hope. And that’s more beautiful than all the stars in the sky."
Project Hail Mary Box Office Predictions
With a fast-approaching release date of March 20 (we'll get to the early release dates in a second), Project Hail Mary is tracking to be a modest success. According to sources like Box Office Pro, the film is expected to make roughly $50-$70 million in its opening weekend. The budget for the film was about $200 million, so it needs to earn out at least $300 million or so for its entire run to seem like a success. In 2015, The Martian made $630 million globally, so even if Project Hail Mary hits $400 million worldwide, it would be in good company.
That said, like Superman last summer, Project Hail Mary could benefit from having early screenings that would help boost its "opening weekend." 70mm special format screenings start as early as March 13, while regular early screenings for Amazon Prime members start on Monday, March 16. In short, Project Hail Mary's "opening weekend" will run for about a week and a few days.
