A Beloved Fantasy Series Returns to Netflix Today
Season 2 of Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation is finally here, and the eight new episodes are just as wacky and action-packed as the first season.
The show originally premiered on Netflix back in 2023, when it became the streamer's most-watched show in the second half of the year. After being delayed due to the 2023 WGA strikes, the second season landed on Netflix on March 10.
'One Piece' Season Two Lives Up To The Hype
The early reviews for One Piece season 2 have been published, and the show looks as though it's going to be just as successful in its second season. Season 2 currently sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes—a score that's destined to fall eventually but still bodes extremely well.
Season 2 of One Piece sees Luffy and his companions continue their journey across the endless oceans in search of the titular treasure that would make him the next Pirate King. Just like the first season, the pirates will have plenty of side quests and hurdles in their journey to keep audiences entertained.
The original One Piece anime has already been running for over 1,100 episodes—so it's unlikely that Luffy will be finding that treasure any time soon. Thankfully, Netflix's live-action adaptation has the same lighthearted spirit and low-stakes storytelling that benefits from such a long, sprawling narrative.
In their review of the new episodes, The AV Club wrote: "Thankfully, the second season—titled IntoThe Grand Line—was worth the wait. Showrunners Matt Owens and Joseph E. Tracz demonstrate a continued understanding of this tale, and while small cuts here and there dampen a few subplots, the big moments come across with powerful sincerity. Get ready to cry over a bipedal reindeer in a top hat."
IGN wrote: "This season, the different towns and islands we encounter feel more developed; an early standout is Loguetown, which is filled with little details about history and culture that makes the world of One Piece feel truly lived-in."
