Winter Storm Warning Issued as Over 5 Feet of Snow, 80 mph Winds Emerge

The National Weather Service is calling for another massive snowstorm to hit the Pacific Northwest not long after the West Coast received over 15 feet of snow in the Cascades late last month.

Earlier this week Colorado and Montana were set to be hit by a strong storm bringing nearly two feet of snow to the region. Now the Pacific Northwest is facing over four feet of snow this weekend.

"Energetic upper-flow and a persistent stream of moisture from the Pacific will bring continued chances for lower elevation coastal/valley rain and higher elevation snows to the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies through the weekend. A more potent system will bring the chance for some locally heavy snowfall into the mountains by later Sunday and especially into Monday," the National Weather Service said.

Over 5 Feet of Snow Coming to Washington State, Strong Winds in Montana, Idaho

The National Weather Service's winter storm warning for the state of Washington comes ahead of a strong storm expected to bring potentially over 51 inches of snow over the next 48 hours - and 66 inches over the next 72 hours - to Mount Baker - a popular ski destination.

Data from the National Weather Service's digital weather map shows much of the state of Washington will receive heavy snowfall this weekend as the Cascade Mountain Range receives well over 20 inches of snow in most locations.

The Northern Rockies are also expected to be hit hard by a snow storm over the weekend, which will bring over 20 inches of snow to the state of Montana while Idaho prepares for nearly a foot of snow and both states could see over 80 mph winds.

"Similarly strong winds, with gusts upwards of 80 mph possible, are also expected with a cold front passage across the northern Rockies Sunday," the National Weather Service said.
