Tourist Accused of Stealing, Torturing Flamingo at Iconic Las Vegas Hotel
A tourist from Canada shockingly did the unthinkable.
According to multiple reports, Mitchell Fairbarn, 33, of Ontario, Canada, stole a flamingo from the famed Flamingo hotel and brought the bird back to his room. There, it's alleged that Fairbarn tortured the flamingo, and police say it's all on video.
Police say Fairbarn broke into the hotel's flamingo habitat at around 5 a.m and injured several birds, including one bird he pinned down. What's more, police allege Fairbarn grabbed a bird named Peachy.
Things get scarier and more shocking.
Police say Fairbarn too Peachy with him back to his hotel room.
The 'Repulsive' Acts
Police say that the video shows Fairbarn tossing the flamingo in his hotel room. Police say Fairbarn claimed he snapped Peachy's wing back into place, though he told police that he was too drunk to recall why he did that. The bird ultimately needed stitches, police say.
Fairbarn also told police he was too drunk to remember that he chased birds in the hotel's flamingo habitat.
Police say Fairbarn "admitted to his actions being repulsive."
The Man Faces Cruelty Charges
Fairbarn faces four counts of felony animal abuse.
"Our beloved birds, including Peachy, who was cruelly taken from the habitat, are currently in the care of dedicated veterinarians and our extraordinary Flamingo animal care team," the hotel's parent company, Caesars Entertainment Corp., said in a statement. "We are hopeful they will make a full recovery."
