Why We Love This Deal

Although parts of the country are still experiencing winter storm warnings, it's not keeping the majority of folks from dreaming about the better weather that's to come. Where I live in Florida, for example, plenty of people are already starting to fight the sun and, even if the ocean’s still cool, they’re searching for swim trunks. This same gorgeous atmosphere is headed for the rest of the U.S. soon enough, and with it, another season of camping. If you're planning on taking the family out this year, you have to see this deal on one of Coleman's 8-person tents—it's currently half off at Dick's Sporting Goods.

The Coleman Montana 8-Person Camping Tent is now $120 at Dick's. Back in August, right as camping season came to a close, I found this very same tent on sale at Walmart for $160. That means that getting it now, ahead of camping season, is going to save you money, rather than waiting until camping season is in session.

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Size: 16-by-7 feet
  • Height: 6-foot-2 (at center)
  • Color Options: Blue and green
  • Setup Time: ~15 minutes
  • Sleeps: 8, but will fit 4-6 comfortably
  • Wind Resistance: Tested to 35-plus mph.
  • Best Use Case: This is perfect for large family and friend gatherings, whether in the park or for yard camping during weddings and family reunions.

This is no average tent; in fact, it is quite jumbo. For starters, most grown men have standing room at its center, so even those who aren’t experienced tent dwellers can appreciate it. It’s built to resist rainstorms, too, with Coleman’s Weather Tec construction keeping out rainwater while its tough frame, if set up properly, can withstand 35 MPH winds.

And all of that is where a ton of the magic of this tent comes from. In many ways, its large size makes it impractical for camping in uncleared areas. You’d have to chop away half a forest to throw a 16-by-7 down, after all. But it's a great option for cleared-out campsites or right in your yard.

Growing up, every three years, my family would have a gigantic family reunion in small-town Georgia. Typically, my family unit would stay in a motor home. But I imagine what great fun staying in the Montana tent would have been. Inside, there’s enough space for two queen-sized air mattresses and probably leftover space for gear. At just $120, one of these could be the best way to elevate your spring or summer gathering and make memories in a fun way.

What Shoppers Are Saying

One shopper reported, “It was super spacious—easily fit all 8 of us with room for gear. Setup was straightforward and took less than 20 minutes.”

Oh, and about those rains? One user who said it feels “roomy” for their family of five noted, “As long as it’s not a monsoon, the tent was leak-proof!”

The Coleman Montana 8-Person Camping Tent is now $120, which is, again, $40 less than it was when we previously reported on it last fall. Grab one before they sell out.
