'Lorne': Where To Watch The SNL Legend's New Documentary
Focus Features is releasing a new documentary about the life and career of Lorne Michaels, the American comedian best known for creating Saturday Night Live in the 1970s.
The documentary comes from Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, and will explore how Lorne helped fashion the most influential sketch comedy show of all time.
'Lorne' Tells The Story of The Man Behind The Show
Although Michaels has been involved with SNL for over fifty years now, the comedy writer and showrunner has a surprisingly private life. He likes to run the show from behind the curtain, with most of the information that audiences hear about him coming from other comics on the show.
The first trailer for Lorne has just been released, and it gives a very specific taste of what Morgan Neville is aiming to accomplish with this unique doc. The film isn't just telling audiences what Michaels has been up to for the past five decades, but rather showing them exactly why he's such an influential figure in the world of comedy—and whether the reports of his prickly personality are true.
The documentary will feature archive footage from the early years of SNL, alongside new and exclusive interviews with the celebrities that know him best. Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, Mike Myers, Paul Simon, all appear in the trailer, with more surprises to come.
Michaels himself, however, seems less eager to open himself up to the cameras. "All of life is reinvention,” he says in the new trailer. “So, to be understood? Not gonna happen.”
Lorne will be available to watch on the big screen from April 17 in the United States. International release dates are expected to follow, with a streaming release not yet confirmed.
