Iconic Metal Band Issues Controversial Rule for Upcoming Concerts
Heavy metal bands have not been known to be rule followers, but some tech has gotten in the way of the connection between the musicians and the fans. Because of this, metal giants Iron Maiden are gearing up for its Run For Your Lives tour with one caveat for fans.
What's The New Rule for Concertgoers?
They’re enacting a strict phone ban. Iron Maiden banned phones during its European tour, and it was successful.
“It was really special on our European dates last year to see that the vast majority of our fans appreciated and respected our request to severely limit their use of phones at our concerts," Smallwood said via the band's website,” according to UNILAD.
What Fans are Saying on Reddit
Fans are very supportive of this phone ban and feel overuse of phones blocks views and generally ruins the concert experience.
“Good message. Doesn't even sound like they're banning phones, just asking nicely. Respect this approach.”
“I like to watch some of these videos that people upload on YT, but the overall situation is out of control. Just enjoy the show you're at, folks. There's bound to be some folks recording and uploading on YT, so you don't have to do the whole show yourself. Also, I don't get why, the sound quality always sucks on phones.”
“This is fair, and it strikes a good balance. They're not banning video. They're just asking people to be in the moment.”
The tour in Australia in May 2026 will end in Japan in November.
