Although Brown had credits in Law & Order: SVU and Veep, the actor was always best known for playing Officer Bobby Brown in The Wire. HBO's hugely acclaimed crime series explored police corruption and criminal drug rings in Baltimore, Maryland, where Brown lived.

Beyond The Wire, Brown was also known for his prolific roles in We Own This City, The Corner, Love the Hard Way, and From Within. He began his career as a professional boxer in Washington, D.C.

According to his family, Brown entered a barn seeking to jump-start a vehicle when a fire broke out (via Variety). Despite his calls for help, the fire spread rapidly and he was unable to escape the building. His wife sustained severe burns while trying to rescue him.

The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that Brown's official cause of death was "diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation."

Brown's acting agent, Albert Bramante, told TMZ: "I am upset and saddened. He was such a good actor and person. He was totally dedicated to the craft of acting and was a joy to work with."
