Losing weight is hard. Keeping it off is even tougher. People everywhere know that struggle all too well, as many continue to fight it. Josh Peck gets it firsthand, since he shed more than 120 pounds and has maintained the loss for many years now.

In an exclusive interview with Men's Journal, Peck shared some incredibly valuable advice like, "You never learn anything on a good day. Easy does it. Making small progress over time gives you big results." Here are his remarks on losing weight, keeping it off, and being kind to yourself along the way.

While chatting with Men's Journal about his hilarious OGX "Hairsplaining" campaign, Josh Peck mentioned that he is "on a fitness journey." That sparked a conversation during which he shared advice for anyone who wants to get in better shape, lose weight, and hold onto those results for the long haul.

Men’s Journal: I'm somebody who's been overweight my entire life. I've actually been losing a little bit of weight recently.

Josh Peck: Awesome!

Men’s Journal: As somebody who notably lost a significant amount of weight, what tips would you have for people who want to lose weight, and just as importantly, feel better and become more fit?

Josh Peck: That's a great question, and congrats on your journey as well. You never learn anything on a good day. So, if you're feeling over it and a bit frustrated, it's a great time to make a change and just start something new. So, feel good about that, even though there are moments when you're feeling a little low or not your best self. That's great fuel to start a new plan. I would also say my favorite few words are “Easy does it.” Making small progress over time gives you big results.

I feel very connected that you brought that up as something you're working on and that you're going through that journey. I love to hear people's journeys and stories with that because I know that it can be a struggle day to day.

Men’s Journal: You have lost a lot of weight, and you've kept it off, which is a struggle for a lot of people. Is there anything that you do that helps you stick with it over time?

Josh Peck: I think I've really made it a lifestyle, and I've fallen in love with feeling great. And I know now that the things that help me that way are going to the gym five or six times a week, moving my body. Sometimes it just means going for a hike or a long walk, pushing my seven-month-old in their stroller.

But, the mental aspect of it is huge. And I really think even if there wasn't the physical sort of prize that came with it, I would do it just to clear my mind and get those natural endorphins. I think I've really turned it into a lifestyle. And so for me now, it's quite second nature.
