Golfer Max Homa’s New Health Initiative, TGL, and Approach to 2026 PGA Tour & More (Exclusive)

The 2026 PGA Tour is officially in full swing, which comes as a delight to millions of golf fans around the world waiting to see how it unfolds. One of the golfers hoping to make a big impression this season is the one and only Max Homa. As a six-time winner on the PGA Tour, he’s a formidable competitor on the green, combining skill and experience. And speaking of Homa and impressions, he’s launching a new health campaign on February 24, which is personal to him, and he hopes it helps millions.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Men’s Journal, Homa and Dr. Tina Bhutani (a board-certified dermatologist and CEO of Synergy Dermatology) announced Homa’s partnership with Arcutis’ Free to Be Me Campaign, which urges individuals with seborrheic dermatitis to “tee up a conversation with their healthcare provider” in seeing long-term treatment.

As described in the Acrutis press release, “10 million Americans live with seborrheic dermatitis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease that occurs most often on areas with oil-producing glands, including the face and scalp.” Homa himself has dealt with the skin disease and is now a proud user of ZORYVE (roflumilast) foam, which has been a wonder in his treatment.

Now, while Men’s Journal certainly talked at length with Homa about seborrheic dermatitis and the campaign, we of course had to ask him some probing golf-related questions. Not only did he open up about his preference between traditional PGA Tour play and TGL matches, but he also shared his approach to golf in 2026 and his hopes for the evolution of the sport.

Men’s Journal: So Max, what made you want to get involved with the Free to Be Me Campaign?

Homa: Since I was younger, I think about high school, I noticed that I had some flaking and some dandruff. It got worse as I got older. Maybe right after college, I would get redness on my face and then start to get in my beard, and as someone who's out and about a lot, you know, on the golf course and does interviews or whatever, it's something I was very self-conscious about. But I only ever really tried over-the-counter things, creams, lotions, whatever, and nothing really helped. And once I finally did go to a dermatologist and I got prescribed ZORYVE foam, I was very pleased to know that, hey, there is a solution.

I knew nothing about seb derm, so I learned a bit about that as well. And then when I got approached by Arcutis to partner, that was great. It was a little scary to kind of put myself out there. I've tried to hide it forever, but when they came forth with the Free to Be Me Campaign, I realized the importance of kind of, maybe, hopefully helping somebody get that same nudge I got to go to a dermatologist, and go look for an answer.

I felt kind of motivated to put my, I guess, embarrassment aside, and hopefully push somebody else to go, you know, get their skin looked at, figure out what's going on with them… We're all self-conscious about something, but let's knock one off the list.

Dr. Bhutani Talks Seborrheic Dermatitis and the ZORYVE Foam Treatment

Men’s Journal: Dr. Bhutani, can you share more about the symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis that people should be on the lookout for?

Dr. Bhutani: Seborrheic dermatitis impacts more than 10 million Americans, and it affects both men and women, but men a little bit more. So I think Max's experience here is great to hear. It usually presents as these red, flaky plaques, commonly on the scalp, that's what we know as dandruff. But if left untreated, it can continue to progress into the face, beard area, the ears, even chest and back areas. And so it can become really uncomfortable for patients.

Men’s Journal: Tell us more about the ZORYVE foam treatment Max is using.

Dr. Bhutani: Yeah, it's a once-daily topical, so as Max mentioned, you know, you just apply it once a day to the affected areas, which makes it really nice and easy. The foam itself has a really unique formulation; it's water-based, and it's really light and cosmetically elegant on the skin. So it doesn't feel heavy or greasy. And it's been studied on all different kinds of skin types, all different kinds of hair types.

Max Homa Declares Xander Schauffele Is “One of the Funnier People I Know”

Men’s Journal: Pivoting a bit, what's the funniest pairing that you've had in your career?

Homa: Oh, funniest. There's been a lot. I've really only done it once, but getting to play with Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, all three of us together, is quite enjoyable. We all hang out a lot, and that always kind of cracks me up.

But there's a lot of good ones, you know. There's certain moments in random pairings that you never think. I played with Billy Horschel and Patrick Reed once. [Laughing] This'll be a story for the next time I see you. But man, they were both cracking me up, and it wasn't exactly the pairing I thought that would make me laugh a lot, but they had me going.

So, there's a lot of good dudes out there, and you know, everyone likes to get into play with Xander [Schauffele], everyone always thinks that he's quiet, but I think TGL's shown, he's got one of the better personalities. He's one of the funnier people I know. So, you get these kinda sneaky ones that catch you off guard that are always great.

Men’s Journal: Since you mentioned TGL, do you prefer that over a traditional PGA Tour event?

Homa: Prefer is the wrong way. I do love it, but I mean, you know, four-day tournament golf's my passion. But yeah, no, it's very fun.

Max Homa Shares How He Hopes Professional Golf Evolves

Men’s Journal: When you look at the PGA, and then LIV, TGL, and YouTube Golf, what would you like to see in terms of the evolution of the sport?

Homa: Yeah, I think just in general. We get caught up in professional golf so much, but there's so many people just, you know, trying to get into the sport. Just to play it themselves, and then hopefully watch it.

I like inclusivity. I mean golf is, has been, a tough sport to get into. When I was a kid, you know, there was such a divide of the men and then the kids.

I think YouTube Golf does an amazing job of getting kids into the sport. I think it's a great thing to learn, because it's great for business, it's great for relationships, it's great for all those things. And then when it comes to professional golf, I think to continue to make it younger, to make it easier to consume. I think it's a slower sport, it's a niche sport, it's not football, right? And we know that kids don't have a long attention span, so let's make this thing quicker.

I think TGL's done a great job with that. I've enjoyed watching it when I can, just because it's fast. So, just doing as much as we can to bring more people to the game, and if they want to watch it.

My passion is for people to learn the game, because like I said, I think you learn a lot about yourself. I think it's a great kind of life skill to have, because it's kind of an all-encompassing game. You will learn patience, you will learn to manage emotions, you will learn a lot. So that's where I'd like to see it go, is to keep making it inclusive, more and more inclusive. And then on the TV professional side, make it fun, make it easier to consume, all those things.

Men’s Journal: What are your goals for the 2026 season? Did you change the way you prepared for it?

Homa: I haven't changed much. I've never been a huge, like, goal guy in that way… I want to win majors, I want to win golf tournaments, but my goals have always been just to get a little bit better every day. To work my tail off and see what that brings me.

I always think about winning the golf tournament, I want more trophies, I want those things, but today's Tuesday. I need Tuesday to go well, and then Wednesday to go well, and Thursday. So I've tried to keep it as simple as I can. I haven't changed much of my preparation process, but, you know, little things, but not anything drastic. I've always prided myself on the way I work, so I like that part of what I do. I might need to refocus some areas, but not change too much.

Kobe Bryant talked about stacking days. You just gotta stack them up, and then at the end of your days, when you're, I always think about this when you're on a rocking chair, when you're 80 years old, if you could just be proud of what you did and wherever it took you, that's good enough. We are all destined for different outcomes, but we can all kind of push ourselves the same way and see where that takes us. So that's my goal. To one day get to look back and say, “Alright, I did as best I could, did the most I could, you know, I have X amount of trophies now.”  I don't know, that's how I've looked at it.
